In the Advanced Master in Technical Artist for AAA Games, you will gain expert knowledge of asset creation and optimisation processes through procedural techniques, as well as an in-depth understanding of the software and game engines used to create high-quality, high-production-value game content. As a technical artist, you will learn to develop complex effects, implement them efficiently within the game engine, and achieve a deep mastery of node-based programming through Unreal Engine’s Blueprint system. You will combine artistic skills with advanced technical expertise to optimise and enhance the visual quality of games, specialising in one of the most in-demand roles within modern game studios. Upon completing your training, you will take part in a Professional Practice Lab, where you will be supervised by a company working on AAA video game productions and will be able to apply everything you have learned throughout the master.

Module 1
VFX, Automation and Procedural Creation

Procedural Systems Creation
You will master the workflows used in Houdini for the creation and optimisation of assets and dynamic game environments through procedural techniques.

VFX Creation and Workflow in the Game Engine
You will fully explore the capabilities of Houdini for the creation, control and implementation of particle systems, volumetric effects and physical simulations, as well as their integration into the game engine.

Process Automation and Optimisation
You will dive into the fundamentals of Python, learning to write efficient scripts that enable task automation and workflow optimisation in game art production, with a specific focus on the Houdini environment.
Module 2
System and VFX Creation in the Game Engine

Advanced Particle Systems and Shaders
You will explore and master the creation of complex, high-quality visual effects through real-time particle systems, dynamically controlling their behaviour, building multi-layered systems and implementing them in production environments. These highly flexible systems enable the creation and control of a wide range of effects, from fire and smoke to more abstract and custom-designed particles.

Node-based Programming Systems with Blueprints
You will master Blueprints in Unreal Engine 5 and learn visual programming logic without the need for prior programming experience.

Advanced Blueprint Interaction Systems
Through expert use of Unreal Engine’s Blueprint node-based programming system, you will create a wide range of advanced procedural effects quickly and accurately.
Module 3
Look Development

AAA Game Production Pipeline
You will assimilate key concepts related to video game production that will enable you to optimise workflows and develop efficient, high-quality production processes within the industry.

Advanced Materials
You will learn the technical processes involved in creating procedural materials based on the PBR standard, focusing on texture generation and graphical optimisation.

Scene Lighting
You will explore the essence of lighting in virtual environments using Unreal Engine 5. You will learn to light efficiently, from small-scale scenes to vast landscapes and complex environments, mastering the essential tools and features required to create immersive and realistic atmospheres.
Module 4
Professional Practice Lab

Professional Practice Lab
Once you have completed the master, you will put the knowledge you have acquired into practice within one of the companies in the Voxel School ecosystem, working in a real artistic production environment for AAA video games.
